The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has embarked on a 3 month sensitization project dubbed “COCOBOD’S ANTI CHILD LABOUR RADIO PROGRAMME’ under its Environmental and Social Sustainability Project.
With 2021 being the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labor, the Cocoa Board is aligned in the fight against Child Labor and has embarked on this sensitization program from July through to the end of September.
The International Labor Organization identifies agriculture as the most important sector worldwide where child laborers can be found.
“Agriculture remains by far the most important sector where child laborers can be found (98 million, or 59%), but the problems are not negligible in services (54 million) and industry (12 million) – mostly in the informal economy.”
”Child Labor among girls fell by 40% percent since 2000, compared to 25% for boys.”
Over the past couple of years Ghana’s cocoa production has faced issues associated with claims of Child Labor involvement in the cocoa production process and this is one of many interventions by the governing body to mitigate such issues.
